The regular meeting of the Hungarian-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Budapest under the chairmanship of the Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko and the Minister of Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary Peter Szijjarto. The parties discussed the expansion of cooperation in the fields of healthcare, energy, industry and agriculture and signed joint documents and a memorandum on cooperation within the framework of the Hungarian scholarship program. Mikhail Murashko noted that the interaction between Russia and Hungary in 2024 is developing positively and thanked his Hungarian colleagues for the high level of trust in the cultural and humanitarian sphere.
The Chairman of the Public Council under the Federal Service for Surveillance in Healthcare (Roszdravnadzor), General Director of ARPM Victor Dmitriev, who was also part of the Russian delegation, commented on the results of the meeting as follows: «It is difficult to overestimate the very fact of holding the intergovernmental commission in such a difficult time. All the more valuable are not only the economic, but also the political results of the meeting. The issues of healthcare and education, energy and transport, agriculture and culture were not only discussed in detail, but also received a new impetus for development. And here it is gratifying to note that pharmaceuticals are precisely the sphere that not only did not shrink, but on the contrary developed on the rise. Hungarian companies Gedeon Richter and Egis are a vivid example of this. During the meeting, agreements were reached that Russian drugs will also receive a favorable regulatory regime on the Hungarian market. First of all, this affects radiopharmaceuticals. Interesting projects in the sphere of science and education have been laid down, and I am sure that we will see their first results in the near future.»
It should be noted that Moscow and Budapest also plan to create an Association of Russian and Hungarian Universities and hold a forum of university rectors of the two countries in 2025. The forum may be held at Lomonosov Moscow State University, Hungarian higher education institutions, in particular, the University of Debrecen, have also expressed interest in the project.
