The traditional forum «Drug Safety» is being held in St. Petersburg as part of the SPIEF 2024. It is a leading industry platform for constructive dialogues between regulators, representatives of pharmaceutical and medical companies, and opinion leaders on drug supply issues. The participants are focused on issues of continuous drug supply tools in the long term, development vectors of the drug policy regulation system, pricing, and import substitution policy in the pharmaceutical industry.
A separate session was devoted to discussing new approaches to the circulation of drugs. It was moderated by the head of the Federal Service for Surveillance in Healthcare (Roszdravnadzor) Alla Samoilova, who, giving the start to the discussion, noted the importance and significance of the chosen topic in the context of the current level of development of the pharmaceutical market and the global economic situation in the world.
The head of the Public Council under Roszdravnadzor, General Director of ARPM Victor Dmitriev also drew attention to the current geopolitical situation. In his speech, he particularly emphasized the advisability of accelerating the procedure for amending the existing regulatory framework, both national and supranational, to ensure accessibility of high-quality and effective drugs for the population. «Reasonable, sufficient and necessary adjustments for both patients, the market and regulators should be made more quickly. Then patients will be satisfied with the quality of the therapy offered to them,» he said.
State Duma Deputy Alexander Petrov, in turn, raised the issue of the need to develop a «Drug Safety Strategy» that would be approved at the Government level. For this purpose, a separate working group will be formed in the State Duma from September. «Our task is to take ten pharmaceutical companies and bring them to world markets,» the deputy said. «The next hundred manufacturers will be included in the program of additional growth with the help of the state and extra-budgetary funds.»
Let us recall that the organizers of the Forum are the Roscongress Foundation and the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation with the support of the subcommittee on the circulation of medicines, development of the pharmaceutical and medical industry of the Health Protection Committee of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
